Finca Biniagual is a historic hamlet of Moorish origin, located in the heart of the Binissalem wine region. Today, it is dedicated to viticulture and the production of wines with a distinctive identity in Mallorca. As a family-run estate with a strong commitment to sustainability, it combines tradition, landscape and agriculture in a unique setting.<\/p>

Perfectly integrated into the Mallorca landscape, the estate comprises 14 houses, a chapel, a historic winery and the Vinoteca.\u00a0<\/p>

The winery is the soul of the estate and reflects a deep-rooted winemaking tradition. Historically, Biniagual was an important centre of viticulture and wine production until the beginning of the 20th century, when phylloxera destroyed its vineyards, as it did in many parts of Europe.<\/p>

Almost a century later, the winemaking tradition was revived with the replanting of the vineyards and the return of the estate’s own wine production.<\/p>

The history of Biniagual makes it one of the most unique locations in Mallorca. During the Moorish perios, it was an\u00a0alquer\u00eda<\/em>, a rural settlement dedicated to horticulture. Following the conquest of the island by King Jaume I, it passed into the hands of the Viscounts of B\u00e9arn, who donated it in 1264 to the Monastely of Jonqueres in Catalonia.\u00a0<\/p>

Later, new crops such as olive trees, vineyards and cereals were introduced, transforming the agricultural landscape of the estate.<\/p>

By the 165th century, Biniagual had established itself as a small settlement with sex houses, although it was later abandoned following the plague in the mid-17th century.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

PROSPERITY AND A NEW BEGINNING IN BINIAGUAL<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The hamlet of Biniagual experienced its period of greatest prosperity at the beginning of the 17th century. Its inhabitants were dedicated to livestock farming, raising sheep and pigs, as well as to viticulture and olive cultivation. At the beginning of the 19th century, the olive groves gradually gave way to vineyards, until Biniagual became almost entirely devoted to vine cultivation.<\/p>

Thanks to its privileged location at the corssroads of the Cam\u00ed de Muro and the road from Binissalem to Sencelles, Biniagual held an important position within Mallorca’s communication network. Many travellers stayed in the hamlet while journeying across the island. For this reason, a Guardia Civil post was established there in the mid-19th century. It was later abandoned, although the former barracks building can still be found in the centre of the village today. The oratory was blessed in 1734.<\/p>

During this period of economic prosperity and demographic growth. Biniagual continued to develop. Between 1840 and 1850, twelve new houses were built, while existing building were extended and renovated.<\/p>

However, at the beginning of the 20th century, the situation changed dramatically. Phylloxera, which had been devastating vinyeards throughout Europe for years, finally reached Mallorca, destroying the vineyards of Biniagual and bringing an end to its golden age of viticulture.<\/p>

The inhabitants attempted to revive agricultural acitivty through the cultivation of almond and fig trees, as well as through sheep and pig farming. However, this model proved to be unprofitable and eventually led to the gradual abandonment of the houses.<\/p>

In 1968, the current owners acquired Finca Biniagual with the commitment to restoring citiculture and reviving an essential part of Mallorca culture. Over the following decades, the estate was gradually restored, and the vineyards were replanted.<\/span><\/p>
