THE HIGH TEMPERATURES MEAN THAT BINIAGUAL IS BRINING THE HARVEST FORWARD TO THE SECOND HALF OF AUGUST

BINIAGUAL WILL HARVEST A THE GRAPE WITH MORE A HIGHER CONCENTRATION AND INTENSITY OF FLAVOUR

This year’s harvest will begin earlier than usual. This summer’s heat and high temperatures have brought the grape harvest forward. At Biniagual, harvesting will begin with the shorter-cycle white carieties and will wait to see how the red varieties develop. The current trend is toward a vintage of concentration and intensity of flavour.

The climatic year began with a fairly rainy automun. More than 300 l/m2 were accumulated. This allowed the plant to have a good water reserve. The winter has been cold and with low temperatures until April, causing a late budding. The spring has been short and dry with a rapid rise in temepratures in May. As a result, vine growth was accelerated to make up for the delay in bud break, while maintaining perfect health. The summer, hot, without rain and with extreme episodes, has developed satisfactorily the autochtohonous and climate-adapted varieties, while the foreign ones have endured less well.

A few days before the start of the harvest, a more than interesting quality and a slightly higher volume than in 2021 is expected.

Finca Biniagual covers an area of 170 hectares, of which 34 hectares are vineyards. The winery and the surrounding fields are located in a tradicional wine-growing area of Mallorca, whose stony soils lend themselves to the cultivation of vines. The inhabitants of Biniagual already cultivated vines in this area in the 13th century.

Today, Biniagual is mainly dedicated to the cultivation of native Mallorcan grape varieties, especially Manto Negro for reds and Prensal Blanc for whites. Other varieties grown at Biniagual are Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay, Viogner and Muscat de Alejandría.
